Principal’s Message
Welcome to St Mary’s School Merredin. We are a single stream school from Pre-Kindy (3 Year Olds) to Year Six situated in the heart of the Wheatbelt. Merredin is a beautiful country town with a vibrant community that offers a comprehensive range of local and regional services and a number of sporting clubs to join.
St Mary’s School was started in 1907 by the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart and has a rich history and tradition in the town for providing an excellent learning environment underpinned by a strong sense of pastoral care and the Gospel values.
At St Mary’s we strive to build an exciting and dynamic curriculum and learning experiences which aim to educate the whole person while giving our students opportunities that enable them to flourish in all aspects of their lives. We are committed to giving your child the very best we can offer.
The staff at St Mary’s are enthusiastic, highly dedicated and committed to nurturing the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical and social needs of our students. We aim for all our students to feel secure and happy and to experience success in whatever they attempt. Our foundation for learning is built on the children belonging, feeling valued and respected. All children are nurtured to become active, faith filled and responsible people.
Students are given many diverse learning opportunities and experiences through the specialist classes of Physical Education, Drama, Science and STEM and Italian. They are also provided with cross-curricular activities through regular incursions, excursions, sporting opportunities, Year Six Camp and Student Leadership programs. Students with particular learning needs and disabilities are well supported through specialised support and MacqLit.
Technology plays a significant part in the life of our school with 1:1 iPad across the school from Year One to Six, student MacBooks and smart TVs in all classrooms. This ensures that learning at St Mary’s is purposeful, current and exciting. We aim to provide the students with the skills and knowledge to face learning in the 21st Century.
Our committed staff are supported by a vibrant and active school community involved in many aspects of school life. Strong parent-teacher partnerships are valued and we support the important role that parents have to play in developing their child’s potential for learning. This partnership is founded on a spirit of mutual respect, cooperation, communication and involvement. Families are welcomed into the school at all times and their contribution to school life is highly valued.
As a school community, we are very proud of our school and the quality of learning that occurs here. In exploring this site, I hope that you gain a sense of this and I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or you’d like further clarification on anything you see. At St Mary’s we pride ourselves on doing the ordinary things, extraordinarily well.
